About this conversion

Had a really good experience converting my bike in Feb 2022 for commuting in Wellington… wish I’d done it sooner.

I got the cheaper motor (36V 300W) as recommended by the bike store because I’m very small and light and could get away with it. I got the larger battery (DP-17ah) which in hindsight was probably overkill for my commute (Kilbirnie to CBD), but I like never worrying about running low.

I got Burkes to look at my bike. They ordered and installed it for me and also recommended some other upgrades which they took care of (disk brakes, a new chain etc.).

I bought an alarmed Oxford D-lock for $162, and later swapped the tires to thinner city ones (Specialized Armadillo) for about $140.

Didn’t see this online beforehand but the battery is removable (with a key) so you can take it with you. It almost doesn’t look like an e-bike with the battery removed so it feels much safer leaving it locked up in a public place.

Unsure about the Motor Drive shaft width and type of battery mount so I’ve just left it on the default options.
